If you’re planning to go away any time soon, then you need to make sure that you’re taking the time to plan it out. If you do this, the chances are far higher that things will go smoothly, rather than you running into roadblock after roadblock.
However, we understand that some people find planning tedious, and they don’t want to because it feels like a chore. But, it’s up to you. You can either plan and be sure that you’re going to have a great time, or you can try and wing it, never knowing what is going to happen. We recommend the former, and that’s what we’re going to be looking at today. So, if you would like to find out more about how you can do this, then feel free to read on while we cover some of the most important areas.
What’s Your Budget?
We’re going to kick things off by looking at your budget. How much do you have for the entire trip? This is important information, as it’s going to rule out some destinations and options for you. For example, if you’re working with a smaller budget, you’re not going to be able to afford to jet off to the Maldives for a month or so.
But, now that you know how much you have, you can start working out what you can afford to book, while still leaving yourself with money for activities while you’re there, food, and so on.
It’s important that once you have booked your accommodation and travel, you split the rest of the money evenly across the days, ensuring that you don’t run out at any point, as this is the worst thing that can happen to you.
Destinations
The next thing that you’re going to need to look at is destinations. We briefly mentioned this above when we talked about budgeting, but you need to decide where you want to go. Where do you think would be a good vacation spot for the kind of vacation that you want, with the number of people that are going, and the budget that you’re working with?
Sometimes it’s hard to tell, but that’s why the internet is so helpful. You can research some of the best vacation spots for families, for solo travelers, or for couples, or even just for sight seeing, and then see what is available.
Or, if you want to be a little more adventurous and you’re stuck with where to go, you can try and choose a place on the map. If you end up somewhere out of budget or in a place you would never go, then you pick a new place, either by hovering the cursor over a place, or by getting a globe and spinning it.
When To Go
You’re also going to have to decide when you want to go, keeping in mind that certain places are going to be more expensive at certain times of year, most notably, the school holidays in that country.
You also need to think about when you want to travel as certain days are known for being more expensive than others. For example, flying out on a Saturday is more expensive than going on a Tuesday, but there are also usually various deals available for you to choose from.
If you’re going as a family, you need to consider when is best for your kids, which unfortunately for your bank account, is usually the school holidays so that they don’t miss things in class.
We also encourage you to be careful of the climate in certain areas, and the fact that there are some countries that have seasons where they are more likely to experience monsoons, hurricanes, and other adverse weather that you would rather avoid.
Means Of Travel
When you’re traveling around, you want to make sure that you’re traveling in a way that works for you. For most trips abroad, you’re going to need to fly to your destination, but once you’re there, you have options. You can rely on public transportation if this works for you, or you can rent a car if you’re able to drive.
Some people don’t like to drive while they’re on vacation, and as such would rather use public transport which is fair. But, if you’re going to do this and you’re taking your luggage out with you, then we recommend looking into luggage lockers to store them for the day, or for your desired duration. This way, you know your luggage is safe, and you don’t have to lug it around with you from pillar to post.
What To Pack
When you are due to go away, check what the weather is going to be like. The last thing you want is to not check the weather and then end up with thick coats in the blistering heat. There are ten day forecasts that you can check, so you might need to take a guess and a gamble for the remaining time away if longer than 10 days. The weather can also change at the drop of a hat, so pack a mixture of clothes so you are covered for all types of weather conditions.
Important Documents
Finally, think about any and all documents and ID that you need to take along with you when you travel. This could be your passport and photocopies, so you don’t have to take the physical copy out with you. There are often safes that you can use in your accommodation, keep your passport and any money you aren’t using in there so they don’t go walkabouts. You will also need to buy travel insurance before you go, this will cover you in case something happens and you need emergency medical treatment. Make sure you shop around for insurance providers as you want to be confident that you are covered for all eventualities.
So there you have it, we hope you now feel confident that you can not only plan but pull off the most perfect adventure of all time.
